3 Approaches with Different Outcomes!

954803_mWant better results in any area of your life?

Awareness is step one… making better choices is step two… taking action is step three!

The theme of today’s newsletter is derived from one of Stephen Covey’s concepts. I recommend his books highly. The content of this article is written by me.

There are 3 ways to go about interacting with others both in the business world and in personal relationships.

  1. The relationship is viewed as adversarial – where each side only sees it as win/lose and both sides intend to win. The end result is usually 1 + 1 = 1/2 .
  2. The relationship is viewed as one where both sides must give and take. Each side sees it as one of compromise. The end result is usually 1 + 1 = 1&1/2.
  3. The relationship is viewed as one of cooperation where both sides want everyone to win. Each side looks for opportunities to help each other. The end result is usually 1 + 1 = 3.

A compromise is an agreement whereby both parties get what neither of them wanted.

So what is your strategy or approach at work? What is your department’s approach? What is your company’s approach? What is your approach in your personal relationships?

Remember the choice is yours…

  • Adversarial
  • Compromise
  • Cooperation

And your approach usually will greatly influence other’s approach. You will be pleasantly surprised when you come from a place of cooperation, how often you will receive cooperation in return. Unfortunately the same is true of the adversarial approach – when you are looking for a fight you usually get one.

So examine your strategy and habits.

With a little awareness and commitment you can begin making a difference in your job, your department, and your company. And oh yeah – your personal relationships!

Be aware – choose cooperation! And yes you can reach your goals in the process! Make sure to scroll down to the TIP of the day….it is a valuable one!

Tip of the Day

Many of us are waiting for permission to claim/get what we really want in life – only to find out that it is ourselves who is withholding the permission. Give yourself permission to claim what you really want!
